NFS
Server
NFS Server lets you export your local Windows drives
or printers to users on the UNIX network. This chapter explains how to export your local
drives or printers, and explain the difference between the Windows 95/98 version and the
Windows NT version of NFS Server. One of the key features of NFSD is its ability to
operate with any Winsock-compliant TCP/IP
The NFS Server application is used to view the
status of exported paths, define exported paths and exported printer and show printer
queue status.
Once you have defined or modified a resource within the NFS Server
application, you need to restart the NFS server to activate them.
The status of all exported paths is presented in this window:
Exporting Local Drives To the Network
In Windows 95/98, NFS Server operates as a stand-alone application.
NFS Server on Win 98/95 can also be set to start at boot time by checking the
"Restart at Boot Time" option with the NFS Server service icon on the system
tray. On Windows NT, NFS Server operates as an NT service and automatically starts
whenever Windows NT boots up. You can stop and restart the service or change the method of
starting service in Control Panel / Services. NFS Server also provides a user
interface that allows you to export your file system or printer to the network, and
provides means to pause or continue your printer job. If there are any errors while NFS
Server service is starting on NT system, it will be logged as a Windows NT event. You can
use Windows NT Event Viewer to find out the detail of the NFS Server error.
